La Saulire, the symbol of the 3 Vallées

La Saulire, the legendary peak of the 3 Valleys!

Summit of La Saulire

At the Foot of the High Mountains

At an elevation of 2,740 meters, the summit of La Saulire overlooks the Courchevel and Méribel valleys.

Here, the landscape changes completely: vegetation becomes scarce, rocks take over.

The nearly lunar landscape contrasts with the scenery found further down in the resorts.

Legendary Panorama

Take a few moments to look around you.

Standing before you are, among others, the Aiguille du Fruit, the Grande Casse, the highest peak in the Vanoise; further on, other familiar silhouettes stand out against the landscape, such as the Cime Caron.

Sometimes, it’s no longer the valleys that we can make out, but a sea of clouds that stretches as far as the eye can see.

Above this white veil, the mountain peaks seem to float in the sky. The view changes depending on the weather and the light.

How to get to Saulire?

Panoramic ascent via the Saulire cable car

If you want to turn this ascent into a truly memorable experience, hop aboard the Saulire cable car and soar more than 70 metres above the slopes.

Through the cabin’s large windows, the panoramic view gradually unfolds. The Vanoise glaciers and the Mont Blanc massif appear in the background as the cable car takes you to an altitude of 2,710 meters.

Did you know?

The history of La Saulire is closely tied to the development of Courchevel. In 1952, a cable car was built to provide access to the Saulire area. It was the second ski lift built in Courchevel at that time. More than 70 years later, the original cable car has been replaced by a fully modernized facility.

Head up to the heights with the Vizelle gondola

To reach Saulire, you can also opt for the gondola. Make yourself comfortable aboard the Vizelle gondola, With seating for 8, you can enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your seat.

Fast and comfortable, it takes you to an area with endless possibilities in just a few minutes. The Vizelle gondola station is located on the opposite slope from the Saulire cable car station. From there, you can head to the Combe de la Saulire, descend to the Altiport area, or even take a leisurely path that will lead you to the Méribel Valley.

The trails in the area

Blue slope

For gentle descent

The Creux run: Wide and undulating, it offers a pleasant and accessible descent, perfect for enjoying the thrill of skiing while taking in the scenery.

It is the only blue run in the area, but it can take you from one side of the valley to the other:

  • Towards the Altiport area: for a large part of your descent, you will ski down the Creux run. As you approach the Marmottes chairlift, turn left to take the Altiport blue run.

  • Towards Courchevel Moriond: you will ski the entire length of the run. Once you reach the bottom, hop on the Roc Mugnier chairlift and welcome to the Courchevel Moriond area!

Red slopes

For more technical descents

From the Saulire cable car departure point:

  • La Combe de La Saulire: The initial section requires a certain level of technical skill before opening onto a wide bowl where you can let the slope carry you. It’s perfect for linking long turns and picking up speed.

From the Vizelle gondola departure point:

  • Les Marmottes: Its layout offers an enjoyable descent, with enough gradient to keep things exciting without reaching the difficulty of a black run. Strong skiers can really make the most of it.

  • Park City: A red run well worth trying, with a start that quickly delivers plenty of thrills. The route then alternates between more open sections and winding passages, allowing you to fully enjoy the terrain.

And as is often the case in this area, the experience isn’t just about the runs. The surrounding scenery offers superb views of the peaks of the Vanoise.

Blacks slopes

For skiers looking for a challenge

From the Saulire cable car departure point:

  • Grand Couloir: Experienced skiers, take note: this run is one of the most challenging sections in the 3 Valleys. Ungroomed and particularly steep, Grand Couloir winds its way between rocky walls, offering a true high-mountain experience.

From the Vizelle gondola departure point:

  • Pylônes: Thanks to its north-facing aspect, the snow remains in excellent condition throughout the season. After a snowfall, it becomes a little powder paradise. It is also less busy than other runs in the area, making the descent even more enjoyable, with the feeling of having the mountain all to yourself.

  • Suisses: Here, you need to feel comfortable on steeper slopes and maintain precision throughout the descent. With its length and varied terrain, Suisses offers a great playground for skiers looking for thrills and beautiful turns.

  • "M": Long and sustained, M requires focus from start to finish. When groomed, it allows you to make the most of the slope and link your turns. Once the bumps appear, they add an extra dimension to the descent and bring a little variety to the experience.
