Courchevel welcomes the Tour de France once again this year, hosting the finish line for the 18th stage. Perched at over 2,300m attitude, Col de la Loze has become a key route for the riders, with its steep gradients and tough sections. This challenging climb promises awe-inspiring battles and an incredible show for both the cyclists and the many fans who come to cheer on the cyclists during this world-famous race.
Inaugurated in 2019, the cycle path of Col de la Loze (2,305m) links Courchevel and Méribel. Exclusively reserved for cyclists, it has rapidly become a major cycling destination, thanks to the Tour de France.
From Courchevel, the climb stretches out over 8.8km with 585m of altitude gain, giving an average gradient of 6.5%. On the Méribel side, the ascent starts at 1,673m altitude, climbing over 7km to the col, with 630m altitude gain and gradients hovering around 7 and 8%, sometimes even reaching 20%.
Several places offer great access to watch the action on Col de la Loze:
Option 1: Take the Praz gondola, followed by Verdons, then hike up for around 1h20m (228m of climbing).
Option 2: For sportier folks, start at La Tania gondola, then follow the road up on foot: more demanding but also spectacular.
